A Passion for Global Flavors

TheJar.Company was born from a globetrotter’s passion for discovering and sharing unique snacks. With each country visited, we realized that snacks are more than just treats; they are reflections of culture, tradition, and innovation. This realization sparked the idea of curating a collection of global snacks, all neatly packed in eco-friendly jars, and bringing them to your doorstep.

Why Swedish Candy?

Sweden is renowned for its high-quality, diverse, and delicious candy. The Swedish candy culture, or “godiskultur,” is deeply ingrained in the nation’s social fabric. From traditional licorice to innovative gummy candies, Sweden offers a wide array of sweets that cater to various tastes and preferences.

The History of Swedish Candy

Swedish candy has a rich history dating back to the 19th century. Originally, sweets were a luxury item enjoyed only by the wealthy. However, with the advent of industrialization, candy became more accessible to the general public. One of the most iconic Swedish candies, “Polkagris” (a type of peppermint stick), was invented in 1859 by Amalia Eriksson in the town of Gränna. This marked the beginning of Sweden’s love affair with candy.

Popular Swedish Candies

Our initial collection features 42 types of Swedish candy, each with its unique story and flavor. Here are a few highlights:

1. Swedish Fish (Pastellfiskar): These chewy, fish-shaped candies are a favorite around the world. They were originally created in the 1950s and have since become synonymous with Swedish candy.

2. Salted Licorice (Salmiak): A uniquely Scandinavian treat, salted licorice is an acquired taste but beloved by many. Its distinct flavor comes from the addition of ammonium chloride.

3. Daim Bars: These crunchy almond toffee bars covered in milk chocolate are a staple in Swedish candy culture. They were first introduced in 1953 and have remained popular ever since.

4. Bilar: Dubbed “the world’s most sold car,” Bilar are chewy, car-shaped candies that have been a Swedish favorite since 1953.

The Art of Fika

In Sweden, candy is often enjoyed during “fika,” a traditional coffee break that is as much about socializing as it is about the treats. Fika is an essential part of Swedish culture, providing a moment of relaxation and connection with friends and family. Including a variety of candies during fika adds a sweet touch to this cherished ritual.
